Master of Liberal Studies
The M.L.S. provides students with the opportunity to take an individualized program of graduate courses and interdisciplinary core seminars in a variety of disciplines in the arts and sciences, and to identify and explore significant patterns and connections that exist among the diverse disciplines that define current knowledge.

Faculty
At IU Kokomo, you will find experienced and qualified faculty who encourage you to grow in knowledge and in skills. The faculty who teach in the M.L.S. program are all members of the Indiana University Graduate School Faculty and most of them have an impressive range of publications in a variety of journals.
The Program
This program utilizes existing coursework in the arts and sciences, supplemented with seminars designed especially for this degree. The latter will assist the student in discovering the relationship between the disciplines of the arts and sciences and in developing a broad overview of those areas. Students will also be expected to do independent work, often including the design and execution of projects.
Appeals to students whose careers will be enhanced by a graduate credential.
Enables those students who have an undergraduate degree to broaden their knowledge and skills at the graduate level.
Attracts those individuals who want an organized, challenging program of study for personal self-fulfillment.
Admissions Requirements
In order to be admitted to this program, a student is expected to have earned a baccalaureate degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited college or university with an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students who do not meet the GPA requirement may be admitted provisionally upon the recommendation of the director of the M.L.S. program and or the M.L.S. Program Faculty Committee. Candidates for admission may submit their scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or other standardized test, but this is not required for admission to the program.
Fall application deadline: April 15
Spring application deadline: October 15
Degree Requirements
Completion of at least 33 hours of course work at the graduate level.
A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required for graduation.
Six hours in two of three departments (Social and Behavioral Sciences; Humanities; and Natural, Information, and Mathematical Sciences).
Three hours of Introduction to Graduate Liberal Studies.
Nine hours in three interdisciplinary seminars (same areas as above).
Three hours of electives.
Six hours of thesis work or a capstone project.
Upon completion of the above requirements, each candidate must pass an oral examination.
Candidates are strongly encouraged, but not required, to demonstrate competency in a foreign language.
