WORD: REGAINING CONTROL WITH AUTOCORRECT AND STYLES (MEETS FOR TWO 2.25 HOUR SESSIONS - Parts 1 & 2)
Word often makes intrusive guesses about the way you want a document or list formatted, or automatically changes the spelling or capitalization of words you don’t want changed. This workshop will help you understand how these automatic features work so you can keep them from making these kinds of unwanted corrections. In addition, by gaining a better understanding of these features, you will learn how to modify them to make them work for you, thereby helping you improve your overall productivity in Word. Formatting text consistently can be a tedious, error-prone process, too. Using styles for formatting will allow you to spend less time formatting your documents, and allow you to take advantage of Word’s other automated features, such as Live Preview and automatically generated tables of contents.

TRAINING FOR FACULTY
SET THE STAGE FOR LEARNING ON YOUR FIRST DAY OF CLASS (2.5 HOURS) or ONLINE (twice a week participation over several weeks)
The first day of class sets the first impression of the course. This workshop uses multimedia case stories of four experienced faculty in various disciplines from other institutions to explain some first day goals and rationales for using them to provide an early course foundation. During our workshop, you will “visit” some first day classes via video, examine first day goals with a partner, and use a planning template to design your own First Day of Class. After the workshop you will:
- recognize benefits of specific First Day of Class goals for the semester
- have selected which goals you want to use for your First Day of Class
- have designed a First Day of Class plan for implementing your goals in a course
We are running this workshop as a site for the MERLOT faculty development program ELIXR. (MERLOT is Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching (www.merlot.org). Participants in the workshop will be asked to complete pre- and post workshop surveys and follow-up evaluation to evaluate the effectiveness of this First Day of Class program.
To participate, choose a face-to-face section or an online section (with twice a week assignments and discussion in Oncourse). Minimum attendance is 4 participants.
VENUE: KO 068 or online
DATES: Half-day workshop Tuesday, July 1st, 9:00-11:30 or
