Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts prepares individuals for the communication demands of social and professional life through a broad-based liberal arts program studying the nature, processes, and effects of messages. The Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts provides adequate background for students who seek post-graduate training in communication arts or related fields.  The major consists of 31-34 credit hours: 19 hours are specified to ensure familiarity with important areas of communication study; 12-15 credit hours are chosen from a variety of advanced courses in communication.

Career Opportunities

The corporate communication track is designed specifically for majors who are interested in careers in business, international relations, health, human relations, law, management, sales, or communication fields such as public relations, issues management, training and development, labor relations, mediation/conflict resolution, or media and entertainment, among others.

Students interested in performance communication may take classes in theater and creative dramatics, in addition to classes providing a general background in communication arts.  Such course work enables majors to pursue careers in the arts, education and social and human services.
