KOKOMO, Ind.—A team of IU Kokomo School of Business students finished first in the state of Indiana and eighteenth overall in the nation in the 2003 Collegiate Investment Challenge. M.B.A. students Duane Hanni of Monticello and Chris Lutz of Windfall and senior Courtney Bozarth of Wabash took part in the Challenge as an assignment in an Investments class, taught by Associate Professor of Finance Dianne Roden. “The competition is a highly realistic investment simulation, which gives hands-on stock market experience,” Roden said. “Each team starts with a $100,000 fictional account and makes trades in stocks and options using the World Wide Web. More than 1,000 teams participated nationwide, including four other teams from Roden’s class. Challenge judges rank schools on all their teams’ average portfolio value. The performance of IU Kokomo’s five teams this year led to a number 7 ranking in the Top 10 best schools across the United States. This is the sixth consecutive year that an IU Kokomo Investment team has finished ranked in the top 10 percent of the competitors nationally. “Our best performance was in 1998 when IU Kokomo was ranked as the number one school in the country,” Roden said.
