Three new business faculty members appointed

September 1, 2005

KOKOMO, Ind.—The Indiana University Kokomo School of Business welcomes three new faculty members in fall semester 2005. They are Assistant Professor of Human Resources Julia Levashina, Ph.D.; Assistant Professor of Economics Fjorentina Angjellari-Dajci, Ph.D.; and Interim Director of the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program Thomas A. Aycock, J.D.

Julia Levashina has taught in the organizational behavior and human resource management field at Purdue University since 2002, earning consecutive certificates of teaching excellence. She earned her doctorate in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from Purdue in 2005. Her dissertation studied the phenomenon of faking in the employment interview and instruments by which such behaviors can be measured. She holds a master's degree in sociology and psychology from Lomonosov Moscow State University in Russia.

In the early 1990s, Levashina conducted two sociological surveys in the Ulyanovsk region of Russia, handling the data collection, analysis, and writing of final reports. The first, a statistical look at electoral districts, was later published as a book. The second examined the cultural climate at Moscow State University.

Fjorentina Angjellari-Dajci received her doctorate in economics in 2005 and her master's degree in 2002, both at Kansas State University (KSU). She is teaching principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, and managerial economics at IU Kokomo, subjects she also taught at KSU. This spring, she also taught courses in microeconomics, finance, accounting, and business management at Globe Institute of Technology in New York City.

Her current research focuses on the effects of institutions on the output performance of transition economies in central eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. In her home country of Albania, Angjellari-Dajci worked as a radio and print journalist and as a trainer/interpreter for United Nations programs.

In addition to a law degree focused on business, Thomas Aycock brings experience as a stockbroker and a military finance officer to his work with the M.B.A. program. “My interests in the legal field include taxation, business planning, estate planning, and trusts,” Aycock said.

After obtaining a B.S. in Finance from Louisiana State University in 1990, Aycock joined the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of first lieutenant. He graduated from Army Ranger School and Army Airborne School in 1991, and then spent the next two years as a finance officer in Darmstadt, Germany. From 1993–1997, he was an Army Reserves Commander based in Indianapolis, planning and delegating activities for 80 subordinate personnel.

Aycock was a senior registered stockbroker with Charles Schwab and Company in Indianapolis from 1995–2002, specializing in derivatives and risk management.

Aycock earned semester honors twice while pursuing his law degree. He completed an Indiana Municipal Law externship and an internship with the Valparaiso Law School Tax Clinic.
