Degree Requirements for the B.A. in History & Political Science

- General Education and the Humanities & Social Sciences general BA degree requirements(70 credit hours)
- Electives (14 credit hours) History/ Political Science Major (36 credit hours)
- H105 and H106 Introductory U.S. History I and II (6)
- Upper-level history or political science courses (18 minimum). As part of this requirement students will be required to take two of the following:
- Y215 Introduction to Political Theory (3)
- Y217 Introduction to Comparative Politics (3)
- Y219 Introduction to International Relations (3)
- Additional upper level social and behavioral science courses, which may include history or political science (9)
- Social Science Seminar COAS S400 (3)
Degree Track Options
Students pursuing the history/political science major may select one of two tracks:
History Track
The History degree track includes 36 hours of course work including the following:
- H105 and H106 Introductory U.S. History I and II (6)
- 6 courses of upper level history (18)
- Two of the following three courses (6):
- Y215 Introduction to Political Theory (3)
- Y217 Introduction to Comparative Politics (3)
- Y219 Introduction to International Relations (3)
- One upper level social and behavioral science course, which may be history or political science (3)
- Social Science Seminar COAS S400 (3)
Political Science Track
The Political Science degree track includes 36 hours of course work including the following:
- H105 and H106 Introductory U.S. History I and II (6)
- 4 courses of upper level political science (12)
- 2 courses of upper level history (6)
- Two of the following three courses (6):
- Y215 Introduction to Political Theory (3)
- Y217 Introduction to Comparative Politics (3)
- Y219 Introduction to International Relations (3)
- One upper level social and behavioral science course, which may be history or political science (3)
