Copyright Policy for Class Use

Dear IU Kokomo Faculty Member,

Many instructors have chosen to group class assignments, readings, course calendars, and other materials into shrink-wrapped course packs to be sold in the Bookstore. Copyrighted materials are sometimes included in these course packs. Examples of copyrighted materials include: Text chapters, magazine articles, pictures, articles from academic journals, and other resources. Permission from the author who holds the copyright must be obtained to reprint these materials.

The Bookstore partners with a company called XanEdu to obtain copyright permissions. Permission is granted per semester, and will have to be renewed each semester the material is used. If copyright permission is denied, you will be notified.

Remember to begin early in the adoption process to identify all copyright materials so that permissions can be obtained in a timely manner. Course pack materials are due into the Bookstore at the same time as textbook requirements. Your department chair or secretary will advise you of the deadlines.
