History

The Indiana University Kokomo Crescendos have been around for decades. However, it wasn't until 2010, under the direction of Rick Alexander that the group exploded in membership and popularity. Rising from a mere eight singers the group now boasts nearly 100 depending on the semester. The group is open to anyone over 18 as a student, alumni, faculty or community member. The group regularly performs to capacity audiences and has been invited to sing in such prestigious places as France and New York City. The group has performed many acclaimed musicals such as Les Miserables, CATS and The Producers and performs an annual "can't miss" Christmas show.

Out of the Crescendos spun a smaller ensemble, the Diminuendos. This auditioned group performs entirely a cappella and is now receiving more offers than it can fulfill. It regularly is asked to perform at community functions and has even debuted at Beef and Boards in Indianapolis. This group of 18 performs many genres of music including spiritual, classic, sacred and pop.

Due to the group's success many other choirs are planned for Indiana University Kokomo including a men's choir, a women's choir and a madrigal group.

All are welcome with no audition by contacting Director Rick Alexander at rickalex@iuk.edu. Rehearsals are Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm in Indiana University Kokomo's Haven's auditorium.
