CV | Teaching | Research | Leadership Minor

Raul is an Assistant Professor of Communication Arts and the director of the Leadership Minor. He teaches a wide range of courses including organizational communication, televangelism, social media, photojournalism, and entrepreneurship.

Raul's research explores how key publics construct the legitimacy of an organization. He is applying this framework to study the senior portrait industry as well as the evangelical church in America. Raul recieved a New Frontiers Traveling Exploration grant that funded a trip to Imaging USA in New Orleans in January 2012. While there, Raul connected with other professional photographers in preparation for his research on the senior portrait industry.

As a photographer, Raul is a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and his work has been featured on the Lifetime Television Network in addition to the Boston Globe's "Big Picture." Raul traveled to Shaoxing, China in 2010 to document the Voices of Unity choir as they competed in the World Choir Games. In 2011, Raul did a photojournalistic tour through Nepal and northern India. In his role as the official photographer of the City of Kokomo, Raul has secured several additional press passes that grant students unprecedented access to events.

Raul has also formed a social media network that partners with the City of Kokomo and Look Out Kokomo!--a hyperlocal news source. These partnerships allow opportunities for his social media students to not just study social media but to gain real-world experience with a wide range of clients.

Please contact Raul if you have any questions about the communication courses he teaches or the Leadership Minor.
