Professional Development Training

IU Kokomo is deeply committed to supporting the professional growth of faculty and staff, as defined in our 2015-2020 Strategic Plan. The Human Resources Department strives to support the IU Kokomo team in pursuit of professional development and extraordinary awesomeness. Budget Management 101

Description

Presenter: Philemon Yebei

Join us for this basic training session regarding managing an IU Kokomo budget. You’ll learn how to identify appropriate account codes, general guidelines for spending money, general policies for procuring money and transfers, and about our Budget Hearings in February.

Emotional Intelligence

Description

Emotional Intelligence is the act of using your emotions intelligently to gain the performance you wish to see within yourself and to achieve interpersonal effectiveness with others. For all jobs, emotional intelligence is extremely important.

In this session, we’ll discuss:

  • The anatomy of an emotion and how emotions and thoughts influence behavior  The link between emotional intelligence and success in life  Ways to practice agile thinking, increase self-awareness, and intentional thinking.

Exploring Leadership Interest Group

Description

This Interest Group will cycle through articles, TED talks, and maybe even books regarding leadership and provide opportunities for those who lead or are interested in leadership to network, share, and learn. Selections will vary.

Fight or Flight: Benefits of Healthy Conflict

Description

Conflict can be a good thing. That’s right- this isn’t a typo! In this session, we’ll discover your ThomasKilmann Conflict Mode, understand how to work with each of the TK modes, and discuss the importance of healthy conflict.

Hiring Superstars: Leading & Participating in Effective Search Committees (FOR STAFF HIRING)

Description

Facilitators: Gabby VanAlstine, Sarah Sarber, Kate Aguilar

IU Kokomo is an awesome place to work, and it becomes better with each new hire we make. In this session, we’ll explore behavioral based interviewing, best practices for serving on a search committee, how to identify the skills, knowledge (learned or experiential), and talents (striving, thinking, and relating) to find and recruit talent. Insights gleaned from “First, Break All the Rules” by Marcus Buckingham & “Effective Search Committees” by Christopher Lee.

To address this, we will cover the following:

  • Hiring Process for Staff
  • Expectations of serving and chairing a committee
  • Behavioral Based interviewing
  • Encouraging “riskier” hires
  • Recognizing implicit Bias

Kuali Time for Supervisors

Description

Any manager of an hourly employee should attend this session that provides an overview of Kuali timekeeping and IU timekeeping policies. We will provide helpful information and practical tips on reviewing, editing, and approving timesheets.

Supervisor SOS: Helpful policies & employment laws for Supervisors

Description

What do you do when your team member needs to be off of work for 2 months? What about when you want to hire an adjunct as an hourly? Do you know the IU Corrective Action policy? We will also discuss providing timely feedback and recognition to your team members, and important elements of performance conversations and documentation. Join us for this session where we’ll explain those fun policies and laws to ensure you and your team are compliant.

Description

Please join us and other like-minded (i.e., awesome) individuals for an informative 2 hour session for newbies regarding IU Kokomo history, culture, and a few other items of importance (like when you get paid) to help you navigate your new gig and soar to success!
