Citation Styles

There are several different styles or formats for citations, and the style you use depends upon the subject you are studying and/or the style that your instructor asks you to use. Each citation style has the same basic parts, but each style may arrange the parts in a slightly different manner.

Here are three sample citations:

APA: Schrope, M. (2000). Sniffing danger. New Scientist, 167 (2253), 16.


AMA: Schrope M. Sniffing danger. New Scientist. 2000; 167(2253): 16.


MLA: Schrope, Mark. "Sniffing Danger." New Scientist, vol. 167, no. 2253, p. 16.
