Scholarly Journals: The Mission Statement

Popular magazines are published, both online and in print, for specific audiences. For example, celebrity magazines are published for those people with an interest in celebrities, and cooking magazines are published for those people who like to cook. You can tell what kind of magazine it is from both the title and the cover.

Scholarly journals are much more specific in defining the material that they publish, and they do so by writing specific Mission Statements for their individual journals.

A Mission Statement tells you, in writing, exactly what you will find in the journal. Scholarly journals provide their mission statements both in print and online.

Mission equals purpose
