General Studies

Students who haven't been able to begin or complete a traditional degree program because of work, family, or other responsibilities have an opportunity to earn a degree through the Division of Continuing Studies. Course work for both the associate degree and the bachelor's degree in general studies consists of a core of arts and sciences courses-humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, and sciences-and a wide range of electives.

Through the ACCELerated Evening College, students who have already earned some college credit can speed up their progress toward a degree. Students take shorter, intensive courses that meet one evening a week. In many courses, approximately half of the instruction is delivered online. Students may also be eligible for credit for previous course work, for military training, and for knowledge demonstrated on standardized tests.

Careers

The Bachelor of General Studies degree provides fundamental preparation for many careers, as well as for graduate school. Students with this degree work in fields such as education, business, law, government service, social service, real estate, and nonprofit organizations. Students often complete the two-year associate degree for career advancement, self-enrichment, or as a stepping-stone for a bachelor's degree.
