Bachelor of Science in Informatics
Degree Requirements (122 cr.)
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Informatics combines coursework in traditional subject areas with additional coursework in Information Technology. But good scientists also need to be exposed to other fields of knowledge–to the arts, social sciences, and humanities.
Communication (12 cr.) Complete ENG-W 131 and 132, Elementary Composition I and II, with grades of C or higher, ENG-W 230 Professional Writing Skills, and SPCH-S 121, Public Speaking.
General Education (37 cr.) Credit requirements break down as follows:
- Six credit hours must be selected from the humanities department.
- Fifteen credit hours must be selected from the social and behavioral sciences, including 6 credit hours of Western European Civilization I and II, HIST-H 113 and 114; and nine credit hours selected from at least two different areas within the department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
- Four to five credit hours must be selected from the biological/physical sciences, and must include a course involving a laboratory.
- Six to e ight credit hours of mathematics, including Statistics (MATH-K 310 or PSY-K 300).
