IU Kokomo nursing school, Tipton Hospital team up

Kokomo, Ind.– Indiana University Kokomo's School of Nursing and Tipton Hospital are partnering this fall to offer off-site instruction for registered nurses (R.N.) looking to upgrade their credentials.

The R.N. to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) cohort will begin in August, and will provide the opportunity for R.N.'s in the Tipton area to complete their degree closer to home. This program is offered as an alternative to attending classes on campus.

"This off-site program is convenient for students who are already working and find it difficult to come to campus," said Lynda Narwold, M.A., R.N., and director of the R.N. to B.S.N. program. "IU Kokomo will provide the instruction, while Tipton Hospital will provide the classroom space. It is a great partnership that definitely meets the needs of the returning R.N."

Class will meet one day a week from 3 to 8 p.m., and students will complete the program in 12 months.

"I encourage the individuals in Tipton and surrounding counties to take advantage of the program being offered at Tipton Hospital," said Debbie Bennett, R.N., M.S.N., with Tipton Hospital. "This completion program will be about community health, leadership and management, and professional development. We value what the registered nurse already has accomplished, and look forward to the experiences they bring to the learning sessions."

Indiana University Kokomo serves a seven county, primary service area in north central Indiana. The campus offers more than 40 academic programs including four graduate degrees.
