KOKOMO, Ind. – A Tipton High School 2010 graduate is the recipient of the "10,000 Degrees of Excellence" scholarship from the Indiana University Kokomo Alumni Association.

Jessica Cunningham will receive a $500 scholarship this fall semester following a regional alumni competition celebrating the 10,000th graduate of IU Kokomo at May's Commencement. Other participating counties included Grant, Miami, Howard, and Cass.Jessica Cunningham

The incoming nursing student chose IU Kokomo because of its location. Cunningham, who barrel races on the weekends, wanted to stay nearby for her education so she could continue taking care of her livestock.

"I was really happy to hear about the scholarship," Cunningham said. "I would like to say thank you to all the Tipton County alumni who made this possible."

The "10,000 Degrees of Excellence" events were scheduled for each county in order for alumni to show their support of IU Kokomo and network with fellow alums.

Indiana University Kokomo serves a seven county, primary service area in north central Indiana. The campus offers more than 40 academic programs including four graduate degrees.
