Emergency preparedness is a foremost concern of Indiana University Kokomo.
The Office of Communications and Marketing has gathered information and
resources to guide members of the IU Kokomo community in case of emergency. We
invite you to become familiar with these resources that could be useful to you
if the need arises.
Dear members of the IU Kokomo community, parents, alumni, and friends,
Indiana University Kokomo, along with the rest of the nation, is closely
watching the development of events in the Middle East. National security and the
threat of terrorism are foremost on our minds. As we prepare for the days and
weeks ahead, we want you to know that safety is of utmost importance for
everyone in the Indiana University Kokomo community.
None of the Indiana University campuses, including Kokomo, has received any
terrorism threats. Nonetheless, we have emergency plans in place that have been
written and updated over time, more recently since the events of September 11,
2001. We are in regular contact with the Kokomo Police and Fire Departments
regarding emergency preparedness and other issues related to public safety.
Should an emergency occur at IU Kokomo, staff from the campus along with local
law enforcement officials are prepared to put our emergency plans into action.
We would activate a central emergency operations center, which would be the
focal point to coordinate management of an incident that occurs on or near the
campus. We will utilize various tools, such as our Web site and media outlets
(radio and television stations), to keep you informed about the nature of any
emergency situation. At the same time, we need to continue to maintain an
environment on our campus that allows discussion of all viewpoints, and to
maintain the rights of all members of our community to pursue learning,
teaching, scholarship, and research.
Please continue to check for any important changes to campus conditions on this
Web site.
