F100 Fundamental Studio-Drawing

This course is designed to train the beginning art student the foundation of drawing from observation. Through direct observation of objects, interiors, and figures students will learn to sight and translate. Proportion and structure will be stressed. The basics of gesture, line quality, value, linear perspective, composition, and human anatomy will be studied. A variety of techniques and approaches to drawing will allow each student to find their own personal expressive creativity.

S240 Introduction to Printmaking Media

This course will provide an introduction to the basic techniques of Monotype, Relief, and Intaglio Printmaking. Non-toxic photosensitive printmaking plates will also be utilized for several prints. The course will provide the beginning student with the basic terminology of printmaking and an understanding of contemporary prints. The course often involves a field trip to view contemporary and historical prints at a museum or gallery.

 

S230 Painting 1

This course is designed to train the beginning and intermediate painting student the foundation of color theory and painting from observation. Through direct observation of objects, students will learn to sight and translate. Proportion, mass, color, and structure will be stressed. The last 1/3 of the class will aid students in finding their own visual style and interest. The projects will be more flexible allowing each student to find their own personal expressive creativity.

A108 Art of the Western World

This course will explore the story of art from Ancient Greece to the present, focusing on the language, process, and historical context of the artwork. The students will investigate the social, political, and religious influences on art. The course will also enrich the students' knowledge of art terminology in general, and help create an appreciation of art and architecture. The class lectures and discussions will be combined with museum visits, group work, and Oncourse activities.

 

A170 Women Artists/Visual Arts
This course will explore the social, political, and religious influences on historical and contemporary female artists and their work. The study will begin with the Renaissance but focus on contemporary work. The course will also enrich the students' knowledge of art terminology in general and terminology that relates specifically to women artists. The class will be taught in a hybrid format with the lectures and discussions combined with on-line research and activities.
