Academic Council Minutes

  1. Discussed Trustees Teaching Award - Deans and chairs should encourage faculty who excel to nominate themselves for awards. Academics Affairs will distribute a list of the number of faculty eligible to be nominated from the various departments. The criteria for selection of Trustees Teaching Award winners was discussed and innovation is not sufficient without indications of success in learning. The Council asked the committee to examine criteria based on preparation, process, and outcomes to create new criteria for uses in evaluation for 2005.
  2. Dailey reported on the status of the IUK Science Equipment Endowment fundraising effort. On April 13 there will be a training session from 6-8pm in KC130 for people to make calls to prospects. Volunteers are needed for some evenings 6-8 and Saturday 10-1 call periods.
  3. Data on enrollments by units and majors was distributed. Haffley will expand the data to include credit hours generated by major by level over the past three years to examine enrollment trends more closely as an aid regarding budget decisions.

Items for future agendas:

Budget hearings - accreditation, new programs, increase in majors in current programs, HRMS/SIS updates, and student life academic retention, PeopleSoft functioning, planning for the next NCA visit
