Admission Requirements

Our students come from diverse backgrounds but share a common commitment to educational success. In making our admissions decision, we look for and consider factors that emphasize academic performance and preparation. Specific requirements are listed below.

High School Students

If you apply to take college courses while a high school junior or senior, you are expected to be on track and anticipated to meet or exceed the requirements to enroll to pursue a degree at the point and time you will graduate from high school.

Undergraduate Admissions Standards/Requirements to Enroll to Pursue a Degree

  • You must have graduated from an Indiana high school or comparable out-of-state institution.
  • Academic Honor or Core 40 diploma or at least 30 college preparatory high school courses
  • You should rank in the upper half of their high school class.
  • An SAT score of 950 or higher (critical reading plus mathematical reasoning) or ACT composite score of 20 or higher. Students who have been out of high school for three or more years are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores.

If you do not meet the above criteria, you may be eligible for conditional admission. Please contact us for more details.

If you have not earned an Academic Honor or Core 40 high school diploma, your high school preparation should include a minimum of at least the 30 college preparatory courses listed below:

  • 8 semesters of English (literature, speech, & composition)
  • 6 semesters of mathematics (algebra, algebra II, & geometry)
  • 4 semesters of laboratory science (biology, chemistry, & physics)
  • 4 semester of social science (history, government, economics, psychology, &sociology)
  • 8 semesters of some combination of foreign language, additional mathematics, laboratory science, social science, or computer science.

Adult Students

  • You must have graduated from an Indiana high school or comparable out-of-state institution or have taken the GED. GED test takers may apply for unconditional admission with a score of at least 62.
  • Academic Honor or Core 40 diploma or at least 30 college preparatory high school courses
  • You should rank in the upper half of their high school class.
  • Students who have been out of high school for three or more years are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores. If you are applying within three years of high school graduation, an SAT score of 950 or higher (critical reading plus mathematical reasoning) or ACT composite score of 20 or higher.
  • If you do not meet the above criteria, you may be eligible for conditional admission. Please contact us for more details.

Transfer Students

  • If you have fewer than 13 transferable credits, you are required to meet the undergraduate admission standards
  • Students must have cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above at their previous college (at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale).

Students dismissed the last semester at their previous college or who are not in good standing are required to submit a Petition for Admission. Please contact us for specific information.

Graduate Students

Graduate students are admitted directly into their chosen academic division. Contact the graduate program of interest for admission requirements and procedures.

Guest Students

A guest student is any student enrolled in another college or university who wishes to take credit courses at IU Kokomo with the intention of transferring those credits back to the home institution.

  • Students must have average or above-average achievement at the home institution (at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale) .
  • Students between their senior year in high school and their freshman year in college must submit a letter of acceptance from their home institution.
  • Students intending to enroll in English, mathematics, or reading must show evidence of required prerequisites or complete IU Kokomo's placement examinations.

Non-degree Students

Applicants who are over 21 years old and who have earned a high school diploma or GED can apply as non-degree students and remain as such for up to 18 credit hours of course work.
