General Education Core Requirements
The School of Arts and Sciences General Education Core requirements were updated Spring 2005. Specific requirements for the general Arts and Sciences degrees are as follows:
The regular matriculation requirements of Indiana University.
A minimum of 120 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
Information Literacy (Communication Skills) – 10 credit hours. *W131, *W132, *S121, C100
Cultural Literacy (Foreign Language) – 6 credit hours at 2nd year level
Math – 3 credit hours (choose either): *M125, *M118, *M119, *M215
Writing Intensive Course - 3 credit hours
Humanities – 8-9 credit hours:
Any Literature course
Performance class (choose one) M174, U101, U102, U103, Z201, X001, X040, F100, A108, S200,

Bio Science and Physical Science - 13 credit hours. Choose one from each category.
Bio Lab Course – 4-5 credit hours. L100, L105, J200/J201
Phys Lab Course – 5 credit hours. C100/C120, C101/C121, C105/C125, G100, P100, P201
Non-Lab Course – 3 credit hours. L270, L370, L473, G107, G315, C390, E105, C100
Social Sciences – 15 credit hours Choose 3 courses from 3 different disciplines (cannot use the same course to satisfy more than one outcome)
