Frequently Asked Questions about Undergraduate Business Program
1. When is the School of Business office open for advising?
Hours vary by semester. Current office hours are posted outside
the School office. Evening hours are often available.
2. Can I take courses through Independent Study (School of Continuing Studies)?
We accept only 6 credit hours of general education electives taken thru Independent Study.
3. What is required to be a full time student?
12 credit hours per semester is considered full-time. To graduate in 4 years you must take 15 - 18 credit hours each semester. The two summer session are together considered one semester but it is not necessary to attend summer sessions to be full-time.
4. What grades are required in business classes?
Courses may be passed with a grade of D-. However, you must have cumulative GPAs of 2.0 in basic business courses and 2.5 in concentration courses.
5. In which courses am I required to earn a grade of C or better?
A “C” grade is required in MATH M118, MATH M119, MATH M125, ENG W131, ENG W132, SPCH S121 and BUS J401.
6. Which courses need authorization before registration?
BUS F301, M301, P301 and J401 require authorization. You must be admitted to the School of Business before enrolling in these classes. Contact the undergraduate advisor at busadvisor@iuk.edu for authorization.
7. How do I get admitted to the School of Business?
To be formally admitted, you must earn 26 credit hrs and complete ENG W131, SPCH S121, MATH M118 and MATH M119 with a cumulative GPA of 2.0
8. What does pre-requisite mean?
When you see p: followed by a list of courses in the Schedule of Classes, it means that those courses must be taken before enrolling in a designated course.
9. Which forms do I need to complete to graduate?
Application for Graduation and Degree Candidate Forms are available in the School of Business office or on-line. They must be completed and turned in to the School office. The advisor will then audit your degree to be sure all requirements are met.
10. How do I know when classes will be offered in the future?
We have developed a 3-year schedule which is also available in the School of Business office in hard copy.
11. What is the Waitlist?
A limited number of students may register for a given class. When the limit is reached, the class enrollment is closed. Students wishing to enroll after a class is closed are put on a waitlist for the class. As openings become available, those on the waitlist are automatically enrolled in the class and are notified by the Office of the Registrar.
