What Honors Isn't...

Answers to Honors Program Frequently Asked Questions:

The Indiana University Kokomo Honors Program is many things, but not everything!

Here are some things the Honors Program isn't:

  • We are NOT in charge of the Honors Day Ceremony in May!

We honor our graduating seniors then, but were just one of the organizations giving awards. This is when our seniors get their beautiful medallions. (Click here to view.)

  • We are NOT the same as the Deans List.

This is for students with a GPA over 3.5, whereas our threshold is 3.3.

  • We are NOT the same as receiving Academic Distinction at graduation.

This is for students who are in the top ten percent of graduates in a school or division. The Honors Program involves the kinds of coursework one does, not just GPA.

  • We are NOT like many high school Honors Societies.

We are not trying to accelerate your education; we are aiming at increasing your educational opportunities while you are here at Indiana University Kokomo through special projects, research and internship opportunities, etc.

  • We are NOT even the same as the Indiana University Kokomo Honors Society.

The Honors Society is a student group, composed mostly of students in the Honors Program, but it is strictly voluntary option. Their activities include hosting the Clothing Drive, assisting in the Blood Donation Drive, as well as more purely social, fun activities. For more information on the Honors Society, check for a link at the Office of Student Activities page, or contact a source listed on our Contact Us page.

  • We ARE a program designed to expand the opportunities available to extraordinary students at Indiana University Kokomo.
