This statement is the basis of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), which started in 1813 after a joint resolution, was passed in Congress. The IU Kokomo Library joined the FDLP as a selective depository in 1968. Currently, the IU Kokomo Library selects about 31% of the items available from the Government Printing Office (GPO). This includes books, microfiche, CD-ROMs, and videos. We do not own the material, we agree to house it in the library and make it available. By law, the material is made available for use by the general public at no cost.
Most government publications are shelved in the Government Documents section on the first floor of the IU Kokomo Library. These are shelved under their Superintendent of Documents classification number (SuDoc). Government publications come in many formats and may be located with the Microfiche, CD-ROMs, Map File, or Pamphlet File. Some government publications are given a Library of Congress classification number and shelved in the Reference section or the Periodicals section.
Most, but not all, IU Kokomo government documents can be found by searching IUCAT, Indiana University's online catalog. If a document is listed under another IU campus but not under Kokomo, it still could be here but not cataloged yet, so check under the SuDoc number on the shelf. Many government publications are available full text through IUCAT by clicking on the URL in the catalog record.
