Computers

The library features an Information Commons area and has computers located throughout the library for individual and group use.

The integrated service desks, Ask A Librarian and Computer Services Helpdesk, provides the expertise of both professional librarians and information technology professionals to assist users with research and computer needs.

Public Access - Two public access computers are located near the Ask A Librarian service desk. These computers are available for the general public and provide limited access. (No Internet access or word processing software is available for the general public.)

Library Computers - With the exception of the public access computers, all computers in the Library require authorized Indiana University logins. Users must have an Indiana University Network username and password to login to the computers. All computers, with the exception of the laptop computers, have the capability to print to a fee based print workstation.

Information Literacy Classroom #1 -- Room KA144

The classroom houses 14 student computers, one instructor station, and several study tables. 

Information Literacy Classroom #2 -- Room KA148

The classroom houses 24 student computers and one instructor station. 

The Information Literacy Classrooms may be used for library instruction activities and therefore at times will not be available for student use.   When the room is closed for instruction signs are posted on the door stating the Room is Closed.   Library instruction activity dates and times will be posted on the black or white board at the front of the room.   When the classrooms are not being used for instruction they are open to users with valid Indiana University network usernames and passwords. All printing in the classrooms is sent to a printer or the print workstation located in Room KA148A which connect the two instruction classrooms.

Information Commons Area

Located along the west wall of the first floor of the Library are several computers in study carrels. This area is known as the Information Commons area.  All printing in the Information Commons area is sent to the Information Commons printer located near the pamphlet file cabinets.

Laptops

The library has two laptop computers which are available for currently registered students. To check out a laptop for two hours a current student ID is required. Check out laptops at the Circulation/Reserves service desk.

Students with personal laptops need to have a wireless card and connection set to the Indiana University Kokomo wireless. If you need assistance setting up the the wireless connection please contact the Computer Service Helpdesk.

Software Available on Library Computers

Study Rooms

Each of the study rooms are equipped with a computer. All printing in the first floor study rooms is sent to the printer/print workstation located to the side of the Circulation/Reserves service desk. All printing in the upstairs study rooms is sent to the second floor printer/print workstation near the spiral staircase.

 

Copiers/Printing

All printing in the library is fee based. The library cannot make change for the copiers.

Copy cards can be purchased in the Copy Room KA119 for one dollar. A dollar bill is required.

Student IDs can also be used as copy cards, money can be added to student IDs at the copy card machine.

Two photocopy machines are located on the main floor in the Copy Room KA119. Both copiers will take a copy card which can be purchased for one dollar in the copy room. One copier also allows use of coins, quarters, nickels, or dimes are required.

Computer printing is also fee based. A student technology fee allows students to print from computers until their print quota has been reached. All other users will need a copy card to print. Five printers are available in different areas of the library.

Microform machines, the library has several microfilm and microfiche reader/printers which take copy cards or coins. Dimes are required for coin operated machines.

 

Media Viewing Area

The media viewing area is located on the first floor near Study Room KA130 and includes equipment to listen and view non-print media resources. 

A handicap accessible computer workstation and computers with scanners are also available in the media viewing area.

Study Rooms

Study rooms are for independent or small group study. Study rooms are reserved at the Circulation/Reserves service desk. The study rooms are available only to currently registered students. Students are allowed to use the room for two hours. If no one is signed up for the room after the two hours, students may renew the room for an additional two hours. You must present your Student ID to check out a room key.

Each of the study rooms are equipped with a computer. All printing in the first floor study rooms is sent to the print workstation located to the side of the Circulation/Reserves service desk. All printing in the upstairs study rooms is sent to the second floor print station near the spiral staircase.

Study rooms on the first floor and second floor study rooms KA220 and KA222 are also equipped with a television/VCR player.
