  Miller to present water quality study

KOKOMO, Ind.—Trent Miller of Kokomo, a pre–med biology major at IU Kokomo, will present a poster at the annual meeting of the Indiana branch of the American Society for Microbiology, April 11–13 at Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell, Ind.

The poster, titled “Chlorine and Monochloramine Inactivation of Environmental and Culture Collection Strains of Escherichia Coli O157:H7,” summarizes part of a larger study on water quality that Miller has been conducting along with Associate Professor of Biology Christian Chauret, Ph.D. Miller has been working on the project since August 2002.

Chauret called Miller “very thorough, dedicated, capable of independent work and attentive to details” in his research.

This past year, Miller also completed an Undergraduate Research Summer Institute (URSI) project, mentored by Assistant Professor of Biology Michael Finkler, Ph.D. Miller presented his URSI study, “Bacterial Clearances from Snapping Turtle Eggs During Early Embryonic Development,” in January to the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
