  IU Kokomo student Graham named 500 Festival Princess

KOKOMO, Ind.—Kristen Graham, a junior nursing major at Indiana University Kokomo, has been selected as a 500 Festival Princess for 2003. Graham is a resident of Kokomo.

The Princesses attend 500 Festival events and volunteer programs throughout the month of May, and participate in outreach programs of their choosing. They ride on the Princess Float in the 500 Festival Parade and are present at various Indianapolis Motor Speedway functions. One of these 33 young women will be selected as the 2003 500 Festival Queen and receive a $2,500 scholarship. The queen will be crowned May 4 during Indianapolis 500 Opening Day Ceremonies at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

To be eligible for the Festival Princess Program, the female candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 25, be enrolled in 12 college credit hours at an Indiana college or university, possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7, have been involved in at least one worthwhile community service activity and be a legal resident of Indiana.

This year’s 500 Festival princesses were selected from more than 176 applicants based on communication skills, poise, academic performance and community and volunteer involvement.
