  Sciame-Giesecke named SOAS dean

April 24, 2003

KOKOMO, Ind.--Susan Sciame-Giesecke, Ph.D., has accepted the position of dean of the School of Arts and Sciences (SOAS) at IU Kokomo, effective July 1. An associate professor of Communication Arts for 25 years, Sciame-Giesecke has served as acting dean of the SOAS for the past two years. She has chaired the Humanities department since 1998.

“I look forward to working with faculty, staff, students and alumni to build on the excellent traditions that have provided the foundations for quality programs in the Arts and Sciences,” Sciame-Giesecke said. “During my tenure as the interim dean, several new programs and initiatives were launched, and I am excited that I will be able to see them through to completion. The School of Arts and Sciences has begun to move its planning efforts forward, embarking on a full agenda of activities.”

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Stuart Green, Ph.D., said Sciame-Giesecke had distinguished herself in the acting dean position, “bringing clarity, collaboration, and engagement to her work with the faculty, chairs, and my office. She has been especially effective in the School of Arts and Sciences program review process and in revitalizing the dean’s advisory board.”

IU Kokomo looked at candidates from throughout the United States to fill the Dean’s position, Green noted. “I am delighted that the Kokomo campus had the uncommon wisdom to offer the position to our own Sue Sciame-Giesecke. “She is innovative, smart, and aware of and involved in all the key issues and opportunities facing today’s schools of liberal arts and sciences. Moreover, she deeply respects the faculty and is one of the most student-centered educators I know.”

A resident of Kokomo, Sciame-Giesecke received her Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from Indiana University in 1995.
