Bahler and Colford fastest in 2005 Old Ben

KOKOMO, Ind.—For the second consecutive year, Christan Bahler of West Lafayette and Scott Colford of Logansport were the fastest female and male runners, respectively, in the Old Ben 5K Run/Walk at Kokomo's Highland Park. With a time of 19:11, Bahler finished 15th overall out of the 139 runners in the 2005 race, held March 25. Colford ran the course in 17:23.
The Indiana University Kokomo Alumni Association sponsored the event with the Club Kokomo Roadrunners and The Kokomo Tribune. Male runners finishing in second through fifth places, respectively, were Dana Neer (17:36), Russiaville; Michael Marley (17:39), Russiaville; Gary Jewell (17:51), Kokomo; and Matt Yarosz (18:15), Kokomo. Rounding out the top five women runners were Waverly Neer (20:06 for 20th place overall), Russiaville; Annina Gruber (20:27, 24th overall), Kokomo; Kelly Wright (20:36, 27th overall), Kokomo; and Nicole Parry (21:51, 36th overall), Kokomo. Top male and female walkers were Jerry Lambert (29:34) of Russiaville and Mary Miller (33:21) of Bunker Hill. Lambert has been the Old Ben's fastest walker for three years running. Miller finished fifth in the field of 41 walkers. Male walkers in second through fifth places, respectively, were Rick Spencer (31:31), Lucerene; Russell Fox (31:38), Greenwood; Keith McAndrews (32:15), Logansport; and Tim Taflinger (35:00), Kokomo. Female walkers in second through fifth places, respectively, were Amanda Pena (36:14, 9th overall), Russiaville; Sherrie Molder (38:32, 11th overall), Kokomo; Suzie Huppenthal (38:58, 13th overall), Kokomo; and Marsha Daugherty (39:42, 14th overall), Winamac. A record 198 participants registered for Old Ben, and 180 finished. The event generated funds for IU Kokomo Alumni Association scholarships. Runner's World provided race numbers for competitors. Refreshment sponsors included Kroger Northwest Plaza, Panera Bread, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Kokomo, Young's Water Conditioning, and Blondie's Cookies.
