New swing choir, movie music highlight April 28 concert

KOKOMO, Ind.—With poodle skirts and slicked back hair, Indiana University Kokomo’s new swing choir, SingSationz, will make its first public appearance during the IUK Singers Spring Concert Friday, April 28, at 7 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium. The 10 dancers/singers will perform a medley called “Forever Doo-Wop.”
These IU Kokomo students perform with SingSationz:
• Aubrey Birden of Russiaville, general studies major
• Bill Elliott of Peru, studying in the University Division
• Sarah Ferenc of Kokomo, general studies major
• Johnathan Fletcher of Kokomo, studying in the University Division
• Colburn Lambert of Michigantown, communication arts major
• Julie Reed-Rozzi of Flora, English major
• Josh Sommers of Kokomo, communication arts major
• Robin Ward of Roann, elementary education major
Lecturer in Communication Arts Chris Clemens and Kokomo High School student Emily Locke round out the SingSationzs. Autumn Brady has choreographed the choir’s dances.
In other concert highlights, the IUK Singers will salute music from the movies and the theatre, including:
• A medley from Walt Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, with soloists Katie Beck, Bill Elliott, Colburn Lambert, Johnathan Fletcher, Walt McIndoo, and Dan Stout
• “The Music of the Night” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera
• “Down to the River to Pray” from the film O Brother, Where Art Thou?
• “Never Never Land” from Peter Pan, with soloists Melissa Heinz and Derek Bishop
• “I Believe My Heart” from Lloyd Webber’s Woman in White, with soloists Emily Pier and Matt Stedwell
• “Time to Say Goodbye (Con Te Partiro),” with soloists Amanda Kasem and Chris Clemens.
Derek Bishop will serve as student director for “Ease on Down the Road” and “Hallelujah” from the oratorio Mount of Olives by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Persons without campus parking passes should follow the signs for special event parking for the concert.
