Bernard paintings sparkle with ‘dance of life’
April 26, 2007
KOKOMO, Ind.—The acrylic paint collages of Joseph Bernard will be on exhibition May 3–31 at the Indiana University Kokomo Art Gallery.
Working on wood panels, Bernard layers acrylic paint with snippets of film, filaments, feathers, and other seemingly unrelated materials. “In Joseph Bernard’s glimmering paintings, bits of seaweed, flowers, and leaves float softly in a polyester resin, a dance of life for the viewer’s eye,” said Art Gallery Director Gregory Steel. “Bernard’s craftsmanship and dedication to the process is evident and awesome.”
A professor of fine arts for the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Bernard is a painter and filmmaker whose works have been included in nearly 120 exhibitions in the United States. Many of his paintings have been featured in Hollywood motion pictures while his own film work has been featured in local and national festivals receiving numerous awards.
Admission to the Joseph Bernard exhibition is free. Gallery hours are Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; Wednesdays, until 8 p.m.; Saturdays, noon–4 p.m.; and Sundays, 1–5 p.m. Call (765) 455-9523 or visit www.iuk.edu/gallery for more information.
