IUK Singers catch ‘Rhythm of Life’ for May 4 concert

KOKOMO, Ind.—The IUK Singers will perform songs and dance filled with the “Rhythm of Life” in their annual spring concert Friday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Havens Auditorium on the Indiana University Kokomo campus. Concert admission is free and open to the public.

Musical selections will range from Broadway and popular songs to sacred and folk tunes, including the concert’s theme, “Rhythm of Life” from the musical Sweet Charity. Other numbers on the program will be “Bluesette,” “Let It Be,” “Dream a Dream,” “Last Words of David,” “Praise His Holy Name,” “My Heart’s in the Highlands,” and “April Is in My Mistress’ Face.”

The SingSationz swing choir, an offshoot of IUK Singers, will dance and sing to “Fame,” “My Girl,” and a medley from Rent.

Sopranos: Shirley McIndoo, Ginger Richards, Emily Lock, Tierra Thomas*, Olivia Shanks, Ashley Campbell, Kelly Herrerra, Faith Rose, and Lisa Simmons
Altos: Erica Brown*, Brittani Wells, Tiffany Goodnight, Katie Ellis, Jennifer Simmons*, and Elizabeth Bratcher
Tenors: Dan Stout, Colburn Lambert*, Benji Russell, and Johnathan Fletcher*
Basses: Walt McIndoo, Ron Goulet, Kevin Boucher*, Ian Watson, and Josh Sommers*

Autumn Brady choreographs SingSationz’s numbers. She and Aubrey Birden also dance with the troupe. David Britton and Cindy Ison share direction and accompaniment of both musical groups.

Student director Johnathan Fletcher will provide guitar accompaniment on some concert numbers. Benji Russell and Kevin Boucher will play drums, and Ian Watson will play trombone.

The IUK Singers offer their special thanks to others assisting with the concert: Jeff Gegner, lights and sound; Ted Ison, posters and programs; Steve Holaday, video; Sue Sciame-Giesecke, Ph.D., dean of the School of Arts and Sciences; and Ann Cameron, Ph.D., chair of Department of Humanities.
