IU KOKOMO SIFE TEAM TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL COMPETITION

April 2, 2008

Congratulations to the IU Kokomo SIFE Team for their win at the Chicago, Illinois SIFE USA Regional Competition. This IU Kokomo SIFE win allows the team to advance to the 2008 SIFE USA National Exposition in Chicago, Illinois, May 13-15.

During this academic year, the IU Kokomo SIFE team organized many projects in the Kokomo community including a Mini Model Economy, which helped 40 local elementary students open doors to their own future. During the two-semester project, these young people acquired the skills that they will need to make important decisions in the future. These projects carried the IU Kokomo SIFE team mission of “providing students with the opportunity to help people achieve their dreams through free-enterprise education and instilling ethical leadership in our region, our nation and our world” into the community.

SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries. SIFE teams create economic opportunities in their respective communities by organizing outreach projects that teach and demonstrate: market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills, and business ethics. Their projects are judged by business leaders at competition on creativity, innovation, and effectiveness. These IU Kokomo students and their involvement in SIFE demonstrates how Knowledge that Works extends beyond the IU Kokomo campus reaching out to impact the communities it serves.
