Preview Party highlights Yucatan adventure trip

April 29, 2009

KOKOMO, Ind. – Indiana University Kokomo alumni and friends will have the chance to tour ancient Mayan ruins and more during an eight-day excursion this fall. A preview party about the trip will take place on Thursday, May 14, at 5:30 p.m., at the IU Kokomo Art Gallery.

The November 1 through 8 tour will take travelers through the lush Yucatan Peninsula, which is a mesh of indigenous Maya Indians, Caribbean and European cultural influences. Highlights from the Smithsonian Journeys Travel Adventures tour will include exploring ancient Mayan ruins and colonial architecture, exclusive talks from resident guest speakers, as well as the chance to absorb the rich, local culture.

“The trip is an opportunity to network with other fellow alumni, which is always a fun thing,” said Cathy Valcke, director of alumni relations. “Plus, as a Smithsonian Journeys tour, it’s educational, too.”

Alumni from IU South Bend will also be meeting up with the Kokomo group for the trip.

Refreshments will be served during the informational presentation about the excursion, given by Tracy Edwards of Collette Vacations. Travel arrangements will be made by the travel agency.

Those interested in attending the preview party should register no later than Friday, May 8. For more information contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 765-455-9411, or by e-mail at alumni@iuk.edu.
