Job seekers welcome at Senator Bayh’s Job Fair

August 3, 2006

KOKOMO, Ind.—Want to find a job or job training? Want to start or expand your own business? You can find help at the North Central Indiana Job Fair, Job Training, and Small Business Summit, at Indiana University Kokomo on Friday, August 11.

From 9 a.m.–1 p.m. in IU Kokomo’s Alumni Hall, regional businesses will be speaking with potential employees. IU Kokomo admissions staff, as well as representatives from other local education and training institutions, will be on-hand to suggest ways of improving job and career skills. Parking and admission are free.

U.S. Senator Evan Bayh is sponsoring the fair, one of several he will host around the state that week. A member of the Senate Small Business Committee, Senator Bayh has sponsored job fairs at numerous Hoosier sites since 2002, according to Paul Nowak, IU Kokomo vice chancellor for external relations.

“But, the August 11 event is the first job fair Senator Bayh has hosted in Kokomo,” Nowak said. “IU Kokomo is pleased to be able to offer its facilities and support for such an event, which can make a difference in the lives and livelihoods of north central Indiana residents.”

Senator Bayh will visit the Kokomo job fair around 9:30 a.m. to honor Kokomo-based company Frontline Logic as a local small business success story

In 2005, six Senator Bayh job fairs brought together 300 companies seeking to fill more than 6,500 jobs statewide. “We look for employers who pay decent wages and who offer the people they hire a place to grow in job responsibility and status,” said Hodge Patel, Senator Bayh’s regional director.

Along with IU Kokomo, other regional partners for the August 11 job fair are Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana; JobWorks, Inc; the Small Business Development Center; Service Corps of Retired Executives; Tecumseh Area Partnership, Inc.; Workforce Development Strategies, Inc.; Kokomo/Howard County Chamber of Commerce; and WorkOne of Kokomo, Marion, Lafayette, and Logansport. WorkOne is coordinating exhibitor registration; visit www.workonenorthcentral.org for information.

Indiana University Kokomo is located west of U.S. 31 on the south side of Kokomo, Ind. From U.S. 31, turn west on Lincoln Road. Take Lincoln to Washington Street and turn right (north). The campus is on the east side of Washington. Visitors to the fair should park in the visitor parking garage or the surface lot above the garage, off Rebecca Lane.  Parking is free for this event.
