KOKOMO, Ind.—Recent IU Kokomo guest speaker Nikki Giovanni discusses her work in an audio interview available through the IU Home Pages Web site, http://www.homepages.indiana.edu/121203/. Click the “Conversations” link to access the interview with the poet and essayist (available with a valid IU network user ID). Giovanni visited IU Kokomo on November 16 and 17, speaking with alumni and student groups about creativity. Giovanni taught courses in creative writing and African American literature at IU Kokomo in 1995. During the 25-minute “Conversations” session recorded on campus, Giovanni talked with IU Kokomo Lecturer in English Karla Stouse about Giovanni’s recent work. In her “zoo project,” she is studying how humans treat animals as a reflection of man’s place in Earth’s ecosystem. She also spoke of her passion to travel around the world and, someday, to Mars. IU Home Pages covers news of IU faculty and staff, through a bi-weekly publication and its Web site. “Conversations” presents audio interviews with notable visitors to IU campuses. Other recent “Conversations” subjects have included Nobel laureate Oscar Arias, feminist author Gloria Steinem and former Indiana Congressman Lee Hamilton.
