December 11, 2003 | |||||||
KOKOMO, IND.—Eight Hoosier artists have either donated or loaned original artwork now on display on the Indiana University Kokomo campus.
Two works were donated permanently to the campus. Kevin Leslie’s forged steel sculpture, titled Learning to Stand, can be seen in the atrium of Virgil and Elizabeth Hunt Hall. Leslie resides in Indianapolis and took part in a two-man show at the IU Kokomo Art Gallery in July–August 2002. Circulatio 3, an acrylic painting by Bill Cross of Lafayette, is on display in Kelley Student Center. Cross loaned a companion painting, Circulatio 5, which is also in the student center. The following artists have also loaned works to the campus:
Susan Beauchamp, Indianapolis: We Swim, mixed media quilted painting, in the Kelley Student Center Commons
Lyle Eaton, Indianapolis: Soul of Cuba, photography series, outside of the IU Kokomo Library
Melody Gascho, Noblesville: Snubbed, oil on canvas, in the Kelley Student Center (shown above).
Sofiya Inger, Carmel: Vanishing Worlds, acrylic on fabric, in the Kelley Student Center
Bob Myers, Indianapolis: Tarpon Run, Cross Multiplication, and Schools Out, all oil on canvas, in Virgil and Elizabeth Hunt Hall Michael Wilcox, Kokomo: Limited Warranty, ceramic sculpture, in the IU Kokomo Library “On behalf of the Facilities Art Committee, I’d like to thank these generous artists for sharing their talents to enhance the campus environment,” said Minda Douglas, director of the IU Kokomo Art Gallery. Committee members include faculty, students, and staff. This fall, the committee opened a review process to find large-scale artworks (at least 5-foot square) for display in the campus’s major public spaces. Persons interested in submitting work for review can contact Douglas at (765) 455-9523.
