Candy Norman appointed to Kokomo Plan Commission
December 1, 2005
KOKOMO, Ind.—Assistant Director of Community Outreach for Indiana University Kokomo Candy Norman has been appointed to the City of Kokomo Plan Commission by Mayor Matt McKillip.
In a city press release, Mayor McKillip thanked Norman for accepting the plan commission appointment. “I am very pleased to have Candy in this vitally important position,” McKillip said. “Candy is progressive. Like me, she wants to see our boards be more diverse, to make Kokomo an even better place, and to see the planning department focus more on positive results and enforcement for the long-term betterment of Kokomo.”
Norman's appointment is a civic role; she does not represent the university on the commission. However, Norman noted, her professional mission at IU Kokomo has exposed her to many community issues, and that knowledge should complement her service on the plan commission.
The Office of Business and Community Outreach collaborates with area businesses and nonprofit organizations to custom-design student internships, community service programs, faculty consultancies, and employee training programs. “The university is committed to providing an educated workforce and resources that help the communities of north central Indiana plot out their future growth responsibly,” Norman said.
