Public speaking students compete December 5

KOKOMO, Ind.—Six outstanding students from public speaking courses will compete in Indiana University Kokomo's second annual Speech Olympics, Monday, December 5. Each competitor will present a 10-minute speech designed to increase awareness of a societal problem; the top three speakers will receive educational grants.

Set for 7 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium, the Speech Olympics are open to the public; admission is free.

Selected by faculty judges, the six finalists and their speech topics include

• Jenneva Barrett, a nursing major from North Manchester, speaking on “Sleep”
• Kim Carpenter, a nursing major from Converse, speaking on “When Hansel and Gretel Were Thin”
• Rebekah Kinney, an accounting major from Kokomo, speaking on “The Environment and Tobacco Smoke”
• Dannette Mainville, a biology major from Logansport, speaking on “Human Sex Trafficking”
• Katie Oliver, a nursing major from Noblesville, speaking on “Human Sex Trafficking”
• Khala Woodcock, a nursing major from Converse, speaking on “Organ Donation”
