King Luncheon planned January 12
December 15, 2005
KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo will celebrate the life and example of “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—Servant Leader” on Thursday, January 12, with its annual luncheon for Dr. King's birthday. Running from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. in the Kelley Student Center, Room 130, the luncheon is open to the campus and public. The luncheon program includes remarks by 2005–2006 Student Body President Kyle Etherington of Kokomo, and a performance by the IU Bloomington African American Choral Ensemble's Contemporary Gospel Group.
(The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is observed nationally on January 16.)
“The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon brings together a diverse group of community leaders, university personnel, and IU students to honor the accomplishments of Dr. King,” said Vice Chancellor for Student Services Jack Tharp, Ed.D. “We also want the public to know that this will be the last year for IU Kokomo to host the luncheon. Beginning in 2007, IU Kokomo will sponsor the King Day of Service, which is a way to transform Dr. King's life and teachings into community service that helps solve social problems.”
Luncheon tickets are $15; sponsorship of a student attending the luncheon is $10. To reserve seats, contact Teena VanMeter at (765) 455-9203 or e-mail tlvanmet@iuk.edu . Reservations must be received by January 4, 2006. Checks should be made payable to Indiana University Kokomo.
The luncheon is a joint project of the IU Kokomo Multicultural Student Organization and the Office of Campus Climate.
