IU Kokomo accepts entries for Cooke Foundation Scholarship

December 20, 2006

KOKOMO, Ind.—IU Kokomo seniors and alumni who have earned bachelor’s degrees since May 2002 are eligible to be nominated for one of the country’s largest and most competitive scholarship programs, sponsored by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.

The foundation will award scholarships of up to $50,000 for graduate studies in the 2007–2008 academic year. The awards can be renewed annually for up to six years, based on the recipients’ needs and performance.

Candidates for the scholarship must be nominated by the foundation’s faculty representative at their undergraduate institution. Niranjan Pati, Ph.D., dean of the School of Business, is IU Kokomo’s faculty representative. He can be contacted at (765) 455-9275.

“This is an exceptional opportunity for a meritorious student or alumnus to fulfill his or her career ambitions through the generosity of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation,” Pati said.

The foundation receives approximately 1,200 applications for the graduate scholarships each year, and has awarded 285 scholarships, valued at $24 million, since the program started in 2001.

The foundation is a private, independent foundation established in 2000 by the estate of Jack Kent Cooke to help young people of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education. Focusing on individuals with financial need, the foundation also offers grant and scholarship programs benefiting undergraduate and high school students.
