IU Kokomo Indiana History Class Research to be Showcased

December 7, 2007

Kokomo, IN—Indiana University Kokomo students will showcase their Indiana History research on December 11, 2007 from 7:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Elliot House, 1200 West Sycamore Avenue, Kokomo, at a public poster reception. The program will include a reenactment, awards, and refreshments. The public is welcome and invited to attend and to observe the results of student research, which took place during an intensive eight-week course.

Students researched the lives of deceased Kokomo area residents, contextualizing and interpreting their lives in order to create portfolios. This research will be donated to the Howard County Historical Society. Over the next three years, writers will turn these findings into historical reenactment scripts for the society’s annual cemetery walk fundraiser.

Instructor Keith Erekson is excited that his students have this opportunity, which he sees as two-fold, “They have the opportunity to conduct real historical research by looking at the primary sources of information in archives, libraries, and census records; the records people leave behind. Then, they get to share their work with the public.”
