KOKOMO, Ind.—Forty-six employees of Indiana University Kokomo were honored February 7, for their combined 650 years of service to the campus. Marked in five-year increments, the Years-of-Service Awards ranged from 5-year awards received by nine staff members to a 35-year award, presented to Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Phillip Haffley, Ph.D. Hired in 1967 as an assistant professor of chemistry, Haffley became the first chairperson of the Science Division in 1971 and served as chair for 10 years. During this period, he was promoted to full professor of chemistry. In 1981, he was appointed assistant dean for academic affairs. (His title was later changed to assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs.) He has continued to teach organic chemistry on a half-time teaching assignment. “Teaching is my first love, and administration is my service for the good of the university,” Haffley said. “During my 35 years at IU Kokomo, I have served on or chaired more committees than I can count and also was elected Faculty Senate President for two years. I have seen the campus grow from one building with 1,134 mostly part-time students and fewer than 20 full-time faculty to a campus with multiple buildings and approximately 3,000 mostly full-time students and 80 full-time faculty.” Other faculty members and professional and support staff members honored included:
5 Years of Service
10 Years of Service
15 Years of Service
20 Years of Service
