KOKOMO, Ind.—Two original plays, “Meet Clara Schumann: A World of Sound,” and “Virginia Woolf: A Room of One’s Own,” will be presented in Havens Auditorium at 8 p.m. on February 28 and March 1, and at 2 p.m. on March 2. Europe’s first female to publish music under her own name, Clara Wieck Schumann was married to renowned romantic composer Robert Schumann. IU Kokomo Associate Professor of Communication Arts Colin Black and Communication Arts major Ed Faunce of Wabash created the script from entries in the Schumanns’ “marriage diary.” Former IU Kokomo faculty member Kathrine Waters portrays Clara. Faunce plays Clara’s father, and Jonathan Kenworthy of Kokomo, a student in University Division, portrays Robert. “A Room of One’s Own” is the title of a lecture presented in 1928 by Woolf, an early 20th century British novelist. In it, she argued that women need financial and social independence in order to create art. Written by Colin Black and Betty-Joyce Symphony, the play juxtaposes Woolf with three other women responding to the speech in different times and “rooms.” Coleen Kebrdle of Kokomo, a 1989 IU Kokomo graduate, plays the author. Carri Luster and Kami Noland, both of Kokomo, and Brie Blanch of Michigantown, complete the cast. Luster is a Humanities major, Noland is a Communication Arts major and vv Blanch is a General Studies major. Admission is $5. Call (765) 455-9248 or (765) 455-9258 to reserve tickets. Seating will be on the stage of Havens Auditorium and, therefore, will be limited.
