KOKOMO, Ind.—Eight students and two instructors from the Margaret Pritchard College of Nursing in Chonju, South Korea, were the guests of the IU Kokomo School of Nursing from February 7–19. The Koreans attended IU Kokomo classes, toured area health care facilities, and took in attractions such as the Kokomo Opalescent Glass factory and Conner Prairie Museum. In previous years, the two schools have exchanged nursing faculty. But, this was the first time that students have traveled to the other school. In May, IU Kokomo students and faculty members will spend two weeks at Margaret Pritchard College, in the practicum portion of an IU Kokomo class on Korean Culture and Health Care. The visiting Korean nursing students sat in on that class, as well as Science and Technology of Nursing, Nursing Research and The Developing Family and Child. They were invited to observe American medical practices at St. Joseph Hospital, Howard Community Hospital, and Century Villa Health Care. In Indianapolis, they toured Riley Hospital for Children and the office of Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society. The Koreans lunched at the Kokomo Senior Citizens Center and talked with the center’s patrons. Several area churches welcomed the visitors at services, including Kokomo Assembly of God Korean Church, Faith Presbyterian Church, First Church of God and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
