Computer Basics III Take your computer skills to the next level! Learn how to use keyboard shortcuts to perform tasks more quickly. Discover how to customize your operating system with advanced configuration options. This class will also discuss, in depth, the variety of peripherals that are available to enhance your computing experience. Mondays and Wednesdays, March 1–10, 9–11 a.m., AND Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 2–11, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Fee: $109 Yoga I This form of exercise and stretching will improve your flexibility, balance and strength. Poses will be taught in detail and will flow together, increasing body awareness and toning all muscles. Students should bring a towel and exercise mat to each class and dress comfortably. Learn how to use a sewing machine, lay out and cut a pattern, and work with buttons, buttonholes and zippers. Participants who own a portable sewing machine are asked to bring it to class. Mondays, March 1–April 5, 6–8 p.m. Fee: $99 Advanced Photoshop® Harness the power of Adobe Photoshop® and its sister program Adobe ImageReady® to create appealing Web site layouts. Compile libraries of your own customized textures and patterns. Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 2–March 11, 7–9 p.m. Fee: $159 Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement Presented by Successful Financial Strategies, Inc. Local investment consultants will explain the whys and hows of retirement planning, in a course offered at two different locations. Sessions will explore sources of retirement income such Social Security, pensions and IRA alternatives; techniques for managing investment risks and allocating assets; ways to minimize taxes for estate distribution; and long-term planning regarding Medicare, convalescent health care and life insurance. Wednesday, March 3–24, 7–9 p.m. Fee: $99 Security Officer Training This certificate program trains students for entry-level security positions in non-profit institutions, business, industry, and commercial applications. It also can benefit business owners, managers and others who must oversee organizational security programs. The program will cover the role of the security officer, external and internal theft, loss prevention, applicable Indiana codes and statutes, risk management, communication skills, note taking and report writing, security systems, search and seizure policy, and observation and patrolling techniques. Make your own cartoons, dynamic art and professional Web graphics. Flash® allows you to create graphics with movement, texture and flawless resolution. Saturday, March 6, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Fee: $159 Grantsmanship This course defines a basic set of principles, methods, and guidelines for writing grant proposals. Covers essential elements required in a proposal, criteria for evaluation, sources, and resources. Mondays and Wednesdays, March 8, 10, 22 and 24, 6–8:30 p.m. Fee: $119 Personality Assessment This seminar focuses on four influential personality traits, whole-brain thinking, communication styles, values and attitudes, and information processing. Thursdays, March 11–25, 6–8 p.m. Fee: $69 QuickBooks® for Business I This accelerated one-day course covers QuickBooks® basic accounting features, as well as small business accounting principles. Creating a mock company, students will practice entering sales, setting up accounts receivable, recording purchases, paying bills and managing inventory. Prerequisite: Prior business experience, along with basic computer knowledge. Friday, March 12, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Fee: $189 HTML II Students will receive hands-on experience developing a basic Web page from the ground up, beginning with basic HTML “tags” and exploring their functions and features. From there, they will learn how to add graphics, format text and create tables to provide a uniform look to the page. The class will also touch on basic networking concepts and how they relate to Web sites. Book required. Saturdays, March 13 and 20, 8 a.m.–noon. Fee: $159 Black-and-White Photography This short course provides a basic understanding of processing black-and-white film, and printing proof sheets and photos. Learn darkroom set-up, sizing photos, and selecting desired grades and surface finishes of photo paper. Saturdays, March 13 and 20, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Fee: $99 Network+ Certification Prepare for the CompTIA Network+ exam with this class.
