Phi Sigma Sigma pins six, plans Kidney Foundation fundraiser

February 26, 2004

KOKOMO, Ind.—Iota Epsilon Chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority welcomed six new members during pinning ceremonies February 21 at Indiana University Kokomo. The six join the thirty-eight charter members of the chapter, initiated in December 2003. Phi Sigma Sigma is IU Kokomo’s first Greek organization affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference.

Those recently pinned, listed by hometown and academic major, include:

Elwood: Leanna Sexton, nursing
Kokomo: Angel Harner, nursing
Marion: Ronitta Harris, guided study
Peru: Ashlee Gasaway, business
Rochester: Dawn Roberts, business
Tipton: Danielle Silvey, business

“It’s great to see Iota Epsilon Chapter continue to grow with committed members,” said chapter archon Meghan Smith of Kokomo. “Our sisters are women interested in helping each other as college students and in bettering themselves, the campus and the community.”

The chapter is planning its first major off-campus event, a fundraising rock-a-thon March 5 and 6 at Kokomo’s Markland Mall, Smith said. The sisters of Iota Epsilon will keep rocking chairs moving from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. both days, to earn financial pledges. Proceeds will benefit Phi Sigma Sigma’s national philanthropic cause, the National Kidney Foundation. For more information on the rock-a-thon and to pledge support, contact Jessica Hewitt at jmamaril@iuk.edu.

On March 1, IU Kokomo will observe International Badge Day. Chancellor Person will host a luncheon for the Phi Sigma Sigma members and all women faculty, staff, and other students affiliated with Greek organizations. On Badge Day, sorority women everywhere honor their Greek affiliations by wearing their badge, or letters.
