Be heard, get involved during Raise Your Voice Week, February 2124

KOKOMO, Ind.Indiana University Kokomo students can support state funding for higher education, donate blood, and learn about community service opportunities during "Raise Your Voice Week," Monday-Thursday, February 21-24. Ongoing through March, the Indiana "Raise Your Voice" effort is part of a nationwide project among 450 colleges and universities to promote civic engagement and address public issues crucial to our democracy. Local events are all free and include: "Take 5" Postcard Writing Campaign February 2124. Using an easy format provided by IU's Hoosiers for Higher Education office, students can write to their state legislators about educational and other legislative issues. Volunteers will offer writing materials and guidance from 11 a.m.1 p.m. in Kelley Student Center Commons. "Save a Life!" American Red Cross Blood Drive February 22. The IU Kokomo Honor Society will host this blood drive from 10 a.m.4 p.m. in Kelley Student Center, Room 130. Community Service and Internship Fair February 23. From 11 a.m.1 p.m. in Alumni Hall, students can meet representatives of local service agencies and businesses offering volunteer and internship opportunities. Exhibitors at the fair will include American Red Cross of Howard-Tipton Counties, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Bona Vista Programs, Boys and Girls Club of Tipton County, the offices of Congressman Dan Burton, Frontline Logic, Girls Incorporated of Indianapolis, Habitat for Humanity, KinderVision, the City of Kokomo, Kokomo/Howard County Development Corp., the Literacy Coalition, Opportunities for Positive Growth, Salvation Army of Kokomo, and the Texas Migrant Council. Refreshments will be provided. Videoconference on Community Service and Engagement February 24. The conference will link IU Kokomo to a graduate course at IU Bloomington, exploring the topic of civic engagement. It runs from 11:30 a.m.1 p.m. Persons interested in attending should e-mail aesadler@iuk.edu for the location. "Raise Your Voice Week" at IU Kokomo is a joint project of the offices of Student Activities, Career Services, Alumni Relations, and Business and Community Outreach. Indiana "Raise Your Voice" is sponsored by Indiana Campus Compact, a 31-campus consortium that promotes community service and service learning among faculty, staff, students, and communities.
