Credit hours continue to build in spring semester
February 7, 2006
KOKOMO, Ind.—Indiana University Kokomo has continued a five-year trend of enrolling students in more total credit hours than in the previous spring semester. Current students have signed up for a total 26,695 credit hours of courses this term. This is up from last spring’s 26,369 credit hours, and a substantial jump from the 22,768 credit hours registered in spring 2002.
The campus enrolled a total 2,751 students for spring 2006, including 1,400 full-time students. Vice Chancellor for Student Services Jack Tharp, Ed.D., said the overall student headcount was down from spring 2005 by just 28 students. The full-time student count is the campus’ highest ever for a spring term, according to Tharp.
“We are pleased with the increase in credit hours,” said Tharp. “Our fall 2005 enrollment was good, and a good fall generally leads to success in the spring. New students starting in the spring are only a fraction of the fall’s new student count, thus spring enrollment is more a function of fall students moving forward into the second half of the year.”
Enrollment at all of Indiana University’s eight campuses for the 2005–06 spring semester is 92,619, down slightly from spring 2005 by 297 students. Total credit hour enrollment among IU campuses is up at 1,045,137, an increase of 5,911 credit hours or 0.6 percent. IUPUI and IPFW set spring records for credit hour enrollment.
