IU Kokomo hosts College Goal Sunday
February 9, 2006
KOKOMO, Ind.—College-bound individuals of all ages can receive help to apply for government scholarships and other financial support on College Goal Sunday, February 12, at Indiana University Kokomo. College Goal Sunday volunteers will be available 2–4 p.m. in the Kelley Student Center to advise and assist participants.
John Delaney, a financial aid counselor for IU Kokomo’s Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, will guide would-be students line-by-line in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Anyone seeking federal and state education grants, loans, and scholarships must submit a completed FAFSA form to the federal processor by March 10.
Eleven volunteers will provide individual assistance, Delaney said, including representatives of 21st Century Scholars Kokomo, Purdue University College of Technology Kokomo, Taylor University, Sun Trust Bank, and Nelnet Loan Services. Delaney’s IU Kokomo colleagues Karen Gallatin and Jackie Kennedy-Fletcher, along with Cathy Taylor of Ivy Tech State College, will answer questions for individuals who have already started the FAFSA process.
Students age 23 or younger, who are single and have no dependents, should attend with a parent or guardian. They should bring their parents’ completed IRS 2005 1040 tax return, W-2 forms, or other 2005 income and benefits information. Parents may attend alone on behalf of their students.
Students who are 24 years or older, or who are married or have dependents, may attend alone and bring their own completed tax and income information.
IU Kokomo is 1 of 34 College Bowl Sunday sites throughout the state. Students who attend any of the College Goal Sunday gatherings and submit a completed evaluation form will be entered in a drawing for a $300 educational prize.
